Watch Riva Tims first interview where she speaks about Zachery Tims' infidelity, mega ministry, and picking up the pieces
Ex-wife to Zachery Tims, Riva talks mega-church, affairs, and celebrity pastors
On April 4, 2012, the ex-wife of Zachery Tims, Riva Tims, broke her silence following Tims’ sudden death in 2011. Zachery Tims was found dead in the W Hotel, located in Times Square, on August 12, 2011. The interview marked Riva Tims’ first time breaking her silence on the death, the Florida mega-church she started with her husband, his multiple affairs, and how she feels about celebrity pastors.
Zachery and Riva Tims were a young couple when their zeal for the Lord led them to start a church. Just 22-years-old, the couple started a church with five members and over the years, watched as their congregation rose to approximately 8,000. Riva Tims’ believes the large growth of the church and achieving something of a celebrity status took the focus off God and put it on man. She spoke about the awareness of temptation and striving for humility.
“It becomes an empire. It becomes your own name that’s highlighted,” Riva Tims said. “And it becomes about you when that’s never how it’s supposed to be. Everything ought to point to Jesus! Everything ought to point to the Lord.
