A Queens, New York high school principal, Minerva Zanca, has caused outrage in the community after two African American teachers filed complaints against her for racial discrimination and harassment. Over 36,000 signatures are currently on a petition calling for the firing of Minerva Zanca, a high school principal at the Pan American International High School in Queens, NY, due to her racist beliefs and practices. The two African American teachers, John Flanagan and Heather Hightower, were fired by Zanca, but they believe that they were targeted by the principal and purposely given low teaching performance scores due to racial discrimination. Another African American teacher, Lisa-Erika James, decided to quit working at the school because, “she also felt targeted because of her race.” Assistant Principal Anthony Riccardo confirmed the statements made by these teachers and said he witnessed the racist acts firsthand. A law to defund the National Security Agency’s Internet dragnet program is gaining surprising momentum. The House of Representatives’ vote today on Michigan Republican Justin Amash’s proposal has gained so much support that the White House is  officially urging  Congress to reject it. “This blunt approach is not the product of an informed, open, or deliberative process. We urge the House to reject the Amash Amendment,” read a statement from White House Spokesman Jay Carney. Rep. Amash ( CrunchGov Grade : B)  is proposing an amendment to  the Defense Appropriations Bill that would deny the NSA the ability to spend money on any program that broadly spied on Americans. Kids protest a new anti-homeless law that passed the Tampa city council  If homeless people in Tampa want to avoid jail, they’d better find a place to store their things and a bed to sleep in. That’s because last week, the Tampa City Council  passed  a new ordinance, Item #60, allowing police officers to arrest someone they see sleeping in public or “storing personal property in public.” The vote was 4-3. Advocates are outraged over this new law criminalizing homelessness. Holding signs reading “Sleeping Is Not A Crime” and “Homelessness Is Not A Choice,” many demonstrated outside the Council and testified against the measure, to little avail. A number of the protesters were elementary school children who handed out flyers and  asked  those passing by, “Where are they supposed to go?” Homelessness is a major, pervasive issue in Tampa. A  2012 study  found that, among mid-sized cities, Tampa and the surrounding area had the highest number of homeless individuals at 7,419.

This week, President Barack Obama finally spoke to the nation in the kind of powerful and heartfelt way that he spoke to them before he was President of the United States.  The president addressed the not guilty verdict of George Zimmerman as a black man, and shared his point of view in a way that was so direct and compassionate that even some of his harshest critics gave him credit for a job well done. Dr. Christian Head is a former surgeon at the UCLA Medical School.  He is now going to be able to move to his next position a wealthy man after receiving a $4.5 million settlement from the university after a series of racially-discriminatory acts by the university.   The 51-year old surgeon filed suit against the University of California Board of Regents, as well as various members of the university’s faculty for a series of racially-discriminatory remarks and retaliation he received for speaking up against his co-workers. Head claims that he was portrayed as a gorilla being s@domized during a slide show at a graduation event.  When he spoke up, he says that he was punished even further. “The case presented difficult issues of alleged discrimination and retaliation that were strongly contested,” the university said in a statement. “…The matter was settled to the mutual satisfaction of the parties.” The incident took place back in 2006.  Dr. Gerald Berke, chairman of the David

A Port St. Joe, Florida man arrested for shooting his neighbor in the face allegedly admitted his crime to police, with a strange excuse. Walter Henry Butler, 59, was arrested by Gulf County Sheriffs deputies after shooting Everett Gant, who is black. Gant was shot in the face after he confronted Butler about using racial slurs to address children living in the apartment complex where the two men reside. Deputies said Butler admitted to shooting the victim, and even called 911 himself to report it, after which he reportedly went back to cooking his dinner. According to  reports,  officers on the scene said Butler seemed annoyed by the arrest and told officers, “I only shot a ni—r. Butler was charged with attempted murder and a hate crime. He is being held at the Gulf County Jail. Gant is said to be in stable condition and is expected to survive.

The serial killer told his family that he did it A new documentary which airs November 21 on Investigation Discovery claims Florida death row inmate Glen Rogers killed O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994. In the documentary “My Brother the Serial Killer,” Clay Rogers, Glen Rogers’ brother, gives an interview to filmmakers in which he says, “I’m absolutely certain that my brother killed Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman.” Glen Rogers was working as a house painter in Los Angeles at the time of the murders, according to the documentary. A few weeks before Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were killed, Rogers told his brother and sister he was hanging around with Brown and said she was rich and he was going to “take her down.”
