What does the idiomatic expression "Woke" really mean in the black community?

When I was yet a boy growing up in the 60's, the black community was roughly 80% Christian distiguishable from Catholic that is until 1979. It was widely known at the time that the founding fathers of our nation wanted Catholicism out of our country. They declared this nation to be Christian nation. The reasoning was because Catholicism was a theocracy in Europe. (Thus the
Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the US Constitution which reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.")

In 1979 two major things happend for the black church which was very important at the time. Science declared Catholicism, a Christian religion and the Apocrapha (Lost books of the bible arguably) had been compiled into a book titled "The Lost Books of the Bible."

The black church until this time were able to distinguish Catholicism (at the time was corrupt and had mob ties) from Christianity.

The generations that were to follow until this day has been groomed to acknowledge several different religions as Christian. That includes would include but not limited to Jehovah withesses, Hebrew Israelites, and Catholicism. Now the Hebrew Israelites was born out of the NOI which is an amalgamation of black historical enlightenment of Islam and archelogical history concerning the origins of African diasporic people and the christian canon.

Black people were very successful and had a upwardly mobile platform. Industry was robust, black owned businesses were plentiful in the black communities that they served. Federal workers knew that the jobs wouldn't last long althought high paying; Black people would take those federal jobs and plan their exits. By the time those jobs ended, black people would have  businesses up and running. In some cases they would retire at 20 years because the business they started would demand their full attention.

There were 3 major religions in the black community at that time and they worked very close together. Those 3 major religions were Islam, Christianity (detectibly not Catholic) and Judaism. The three worked in tandem.

In the (arguably) roaring 80's the history of black people had, up until this point, black history had been well stripped during slavery. However, this period was the era of enlightenment and the revelations started to trickle down therefore, the 80's was the age of enlightenment for the black community and the black church.

As the 80's wined down that drip of black history had started to become a full on flow of information with a religious ferver. This information had come in so abruptly with force it  started to infultrate the church, schools and the communities. The major souce of this information would come from scholars, archeolotists, and was immediately filtered into the black community through the NOI and the FOI.

The hornorable Minister Louis Farrakhan started implimenting this new found history into the final call. The Final Call had become a place where this information would be sourced into the black communities.

This information had started to take hold of the minds of the youth of which I was one.

Others of note was Tupac Amaru Shakur, and Mouse Man (Dana Smith), he is the friend that introduced me to my shero of whom I had read about in social studies in school, Ms Afeni Shakur. I was obsessed with Ms Afeni. Ms Afeni would ecourage me to contribute to the history, to do my part and find that thing that I care about and make it my lifes work.

My dad and mom had just ordered me  these Ebony Pictorial History of Black America Encyclopedias and I would read and study them in silence until now.
Myself, Tupac, Mouseman, Sissy (a mutual friend), and Ms Afeni used to trade storys of black innovators,  Poets of the harlem Renaissance, Black philosophers, and quotes of black men and women of renown.

We would trade these characters much like sports trading cards. It was a knowlege that I would study in secret that I no longer had to keep to myself.

Also, at that time the NOI, FOI, Christians, and the street had come to regard those of such Knowledge as, "Woke."

Now that was my personal experience with respect to the origins of the idea and the term "Woke."

So when I hear the Democratic Party appropriate our term. It makes me wince! They use to begile our youth whom are familiar with the term, but don't know the real history or meaning behind it.

It sickens me because the unread blacks follow the white liberal down a dark alley to their own destruction. They have reacquaint the term as awareness of racial prejudice and discrimination. When in fact the term "woke" meant someone who is thoroughly aware of self. It (woke) was the revelation of whom we of the diaspora were as a people.

The white liberal knows and understands our history very well...

The white liberal do not know nor could they understand the depth of what it originally means to us. (Empathy) They were the people that took this history of self from us!

Notwithstanding, what concerns me when I see Biden, Harris, AOC, and the black taking heads that know better, or should know better, like Al Sharpton, Michael E Dyson, Cornell West, Roland Martin, etc preaching this pervesion bewilders me.

How can you the "intelligencia" of the black community allow the white liberal to tell you about your culture. It is willful malalignment of thought, culture, and meaning. Moreover, these people allow the white liberal to expropriate our culture twist it to deceive our own people.
