We the People: A Call to Return
"We the People, in order to form a more perfect Union..."
Those words were never a declaration of perfection. They were an acknowledgment that every generation bears the responsibility of preserving, strengthening, and refining the Union entrusted to them.
Today, we stand at a crossroads.
There is a growing belief that government can solve every problem, heal every wound, and rescue every generation from the consequences of its choices. Yet history teaches a different lesson. Governments are necessary, but they are not sovereign. They are instruments of human hands and minds, and every human institution is limited by the character of those who lead it and those who sustain it.
No government can save a nation whose people have lost their moral compass.
This is not about Republicans, liberals, Socialists, Capitalists, Communists, Green Peace, libertarian, Democrats, nor the new Constitutional Parties. It is not about race, wealth, influence, or popularity. This is about something far greater. It is about the Author of the liberties we have enjoyed for more than two and a half centuries. If we forget the Giver of our freedoms, we should not be surprised when we begin to lose an understanding of how to preserve them.
Scripture reminds us, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD." Throughout history, nations have risen through humility and righteousness, and they have fallen through pride, corruption, and the belief that they no longer need GOD.
Our moral condition resembles a person slowly losing sight.
The tragedy of blindness is that it often begins quietly. Peripheral vision fades first as the rods of the eye lose their ability to detect what is approaching from the edges. The danger is not immediately obvious because central vision remains clear for a time.
So it is with a nation.
When we drift from GOD, we do not immediately lose everything. At first, we lose our ability to recognize the subtle encroachment of evil. We become less discerning. We dismiss warning signs. We normalize what previous generations would have recognized as destructive. The threats approaching from the margins go unnoticed until they stand directly before us.
The eye depends upon photoreceptors to receive light. Without light, there can be no vision.
In the same way, the human soul depends upon the light of GOD for wisdom, truth, and discernment. GOD's Word illuminates our path, exposes deception, and gives us the courage to enter dark places so that others may find hope. We were never called merely to avoid darkness; we were called to carry the Light into it.
As blindness progresses, the cones responsible for sharp, focused vision begin to fail. Colors fade. Details disappear. What was once unmistakably clear becomes distorted.
The same danger confronts every generation. When truth is abandoned, confusion follows. Right and wrong become matters of preference instead of principle. Justice is redefined. Conviction gives way to convenience. We lose not only our peripheral vision but eventually our ability to recognize truth itself.
The greatest threat to any nation is not found at its borders. It is found within the hearts of its people.
The question before us is not, "Who will occupy the next office?" The greater question is, "Who are we becoming?"
Will we be a people of integrity or convenience?
Will we choose truth over comfort?
Will we value character more than applause?
Will we remember the GOD who has sustained us, or will we continue trusting only in our own understanding?
The Constitution can define our government, but it cannot create virtue.
Laws can restrain evil, but they cannot transform the human heart.
Only a people committed to truth, justice, humility, and the fear of God can sustain the blessings of liberty.
If we desire a more perfect Union, the work must begin with us.
It begins in our homes.
It begins in our churches.
It begins wherever men and women choose repentance over pride, courage begins in our communities.
It begins wherever men and women choose repentance over pride, courage over silence, truth over compromise, and faith over fear.
We must decide who we are—not merely as individuals, but as one people.
Not because government demands it.
Not because culture expects it.
But because future generations deserve to inherit not only our freedoms, but the character that made those freedoms possible.
May we be remembered as the generation that did not surrender its vision, but sought the Light once again.
For where there is light, there is hope.
Where there is truth, there is freedom.
And where a people humble themselves before God, there remains the possibility of renewal.
